Training

We have coaches and helpers to help you get the best out of the sport.

A small  team of coaches at Newport is on hand to make sure all our members have access to good quality tuition whilst on the water. Two coaching launches means we can keep an eye on what is happening with several crews simultaneously, and provide immediate safety cover.

Our River

Our home waters, on the River Medina, are some of the most sheltered and safest in the region, which means they are perfect for those just starting out in rowing and the gently shelving riverbank at the club makes boating quick, safe and simple. As you would expect, safety is a priority and we have various systems in place, exclusive to our stretch of the river, aimed at making your outing as enjoyable as possible.

Circuits, Indoor and Winter Training

Newport has a small but well equipped gym area to the rear of our boathouse, which includes a number of Concept 2 rowing machines, a leg press, smith machine, pull-up bars, various free weights and kettle bells. The different squads make full use of this equipment throughout the year, but indoor training intensifies during the winter months when daylight restricts opportunities on the water.

Circuit training is open to both members and non-members and costs £3.00 per session.
